Important Notice: Air Quality Warning – Strenuous Outdoor Activities Temporarily Suspended

UPDATE June 11, 2025 8:00 a.m. There is an Air Quality Warning currently in effect. To protect the wellbeing of staff and students, we have suspended strenuous outdoor activities at MHPSD schools and facilities for the remainder of the day.

Outdoor air quality levels in our region have reached a Very High Risk level of 10+ on the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) scale. The Very High Risk is expected to persist throughout the remainder of the school/work day and into the afternoon.

This includes outdoor physical education classes, sports practices, and recess activities that involve strenuous movement. For any non-strenuous activity, such as walking, we recommend limiting walking to short distances; individual health limitations should be taken into consideration such as asthma or breathing difficulties. Anybody with these conditions should remain inside.  Indoor air quality is regulated through a high efficiency filtered air intake system that is designed to reduce airborne pollutants.

We are closely monitoring updates from local health and environmental authorities and the outdoor air quality is predicted to improve; we anticipate that strenuous outdoor activities and work will be permitted on Thursday, June 12. Please check here and Facebook for updates.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in keeping our students and staff safe.

June 10, 2025 11:42 a.m. Due to a Special Air Quality Statement currently in effect, outdoor air quality levels in our region have reached a high-risk level of 8 on the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) scale and are expected to remain at a high level throughout the remainder of the day and early evening.

To protect the health and well-being of our students and staff, all strenuous outdoor activities at our schools and facilities are suspended for the remainder of the work and school day. This includes outdoor physical education classes, sports practices, and recess activities that involve strenuous movement.

For any non-strenuous activity, such as walking, individual health limitations should be taken into consideration such as asthma or breathing difficulties. Anybody with these conditions should remain inside. Indoor air quality is regulated through a high efficiency filtered air intake system that is designed to reduce airborne pollutants.

The outdoor air quality is predicted to improve, and we anticipate that strenuous outdoor activities and work will be permitted on Wednesday, June 11.

We are closely monitoring updates from local health and environmental authorities and will provide further guidance as conditions change. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in keeping our students and staff safe.
