Anatomy 1 and 2 – Health care services

These are 7 credit courses with the opportunity to earn up to 12 at various levels (10, 20, 30).

Anatomy 1 - Focuses on the following systems: muscles/bones, digestive, respiratory, cardiovascular, and urinary. There will also be a module on chronic conditions. 

Anatomy 2 - Focuses on the following systems: Nervous (brain, nerves and senses), endocrine, and reproduction. The extension topics also will include Infection and Immunity (Epidemiology and Immune response) and First Aid Certification (valid for 3 years).

If you are considering a career in the medical field at any level or just want to understand the human body better, then this course would be an asset. 

Forensics

This is an 8-credit course (3 at the 20 and 5 at the 30 level) that is designed for students who are enrolled in or have completed Science 10 or 14. Content includes the collection and analysis of evidence from crime scenes, the principles of fingerprinting, breathalyzers, polygraphing and DNA analysis. It will also include forensic anthropology, forensic entomology, forensic toxicology, ballistics, police protective equipment, police dogs, arson investigation and criminal profiling. A major component is an analysis of real crime cases. If you are considering a career in law enforcement of other legal careers, you may want to enrol in this course. Science 10 or Science 14 is a prerequisite for this course.

Psychology – General 20/Experimental 30
Psychology – Personal 20/Abnormal 30 

These courses will be comprised of 6 credits (3 at the 20 level and 3 at the 30 level). Students will explore the scientific approach to understanding human behaviour so that they may fully appreciate the reasons that underlie their own thoughts, choices and behaviours and those of others. Some of the themes and subtopics covered include personality, behaviour, intelligence, criminal minds, heredity and environment, emotional problems of adolescents, behavioural and mental disorders and their treatment, and careers in psychology. These courses target those students considering a career in education, health care, counselling, criminology, child care, etc. There is no prerequisite for either of these 2 courses.
