The fourth year of the 2022–2026 Education Plan was approved by the Board with enthusiasm and optimism for the future. A strategic vision outlines inclusive, progressive, and student-centered education across 17 schools. Grounded in stakeholder engagement and Alberta Education’s Assurance Framework, the plan aims to create equitable learning opportunities that support academic achievement and student well-being. Data-informed, research-based teaching is required to enhance student achievement. We continue to expand academic offerings, including STEM, arts, trades, and athletics academies, while strengthening partnerships with post-secondary institutions and industry to support career pathways.

The plan is structured around four universal goals: Optimal Learning, Thinking and Acting Inclusively, Wellness, and Truth and Reconciliation. These goals reflect our commitment to student success through personalized and evidence-based instruction, inclusive practices, and holistic development.

Optimal Learning emphasizes engaging, differentiated instruction supported by digital tools, assessment clarity, and strong teacher-student relationships. Initiatives such as literacy and numeracy frameworks, curriculum-focused professional learning, and expanded career pathways through academies are central to this goal.

Thinking and acting inclusively aims to ensure every student feels valued, with a focus on equity, cultural competence, and social-emotional supports. This is bolstered by collaborative frameworks, school-based health teams, and leadership in diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Wellness is promoted through a division-wide Culture of Wellness Framework, professional learning, and partnerships to support mental health. Strategies target system stress reduction, attendance improvement, and fostering positive school climates.

Truth and Reconciliation is deeply embedded in MHPSD’s identity, with targeted strategies to increase Indigenous representation, student engagement, and cultural understanding. Events like Kiskihkeyimowin and the integration of First Nations, Métis and Inuit resources exemplify MHPSD’s leadership in this area.
