Road Closures Surrounding MHHS

Sept 12, 2019 Update 

As of Monday Sept 16th, 1st Avenue SW will be closed and the East access to the student parking lot will be blocked off. Students are able to access the parking lot through the North entrance, by entering via 5th Street SW. 

  • MHHS Road Closures Map - PHASE 2 (Sept 12, 2019) 
  • If students choose to park on the street we ask that you respect our neighbours and keep driveways clear.    
  • Families can drop off and pick up students using the 7th Street SW entrance at the front of the school.
  • There will be sidewalk detours as construction continues. The entrance at the front of the school, on 7th Street SW, will remain free from construction and will be the most accessible entrance for students that walk to and from school.   

The detour route from 5th Street SW will remain accessible (one-way traffic only, see attached map for reference):

  • CAPE families will use the MHHS detour route during construction to accommodate their school community during drop off and pick up times. The detour route is for one-way traffic only, please observe and obey the posted road signs and 15km/hr speed limit to ensure that all students, staff and families stay safe.
  • For families that require wheelchair access, please use the one-way detour route from 5th Street SW to utilize handicap parking stalls at the back entrance.
  • During the construction period, access through the 5th Street SW detour route is limited to MHHS staff, CAPE families, wheel chair, and school bus transportation. 

This phase of the project is anticipated to be complete within the next few weeks; all future updates will be sent to students and families via website and social media. See below for school bus transportation information.

Please be advised of the following traffic pattern changes in the Medicine Hat High School area. 

A major water and sewer rehabilitation project that started in July will be extended into September for additional work that is required to complete the project. Please refer to the MHHS Road Closures Map for traffic pattern changes in our area.

Road closures are along 5th Street SW from Division Avenue SW to Second Avenue SW including intersections. The following accommodations will be made for sidewalk access, student parking and student/bus drop-off and pick up in the surrounding area:

  • Student drivers are asked to park in the back parking lot through the 1st Avenue entrance. We anticipate that 5th Street SW will be reopened within the month and we will be able to offer access to student parking in the back lot through the East access. If students choose to park on the street we ask that you respect our neighbours and keep driveways clear.
